The Original Running Man
-Hal Higdon-
Many people aren't sure where to turn to for advice when they set out to run their first 5K or even first Marathon. We've got a recommendation for you; Hal Higdon is his name and running is his game.
"I've been running consistently since the spring 1949."
- Hal Higdon
Hal is a current contributor to Runner's World magazine and has been doing so longer than any other writer on staff. Hal has written 36 books, run in the Olympic Trials 8 times, won four World Master Championships and is one of the founders of Road Runner's Club of America. He has also competed in over 100 marathons and even though he's been typically long distance his fastest mile time was 4:13.6. That's quick!
Some of his biggest running accomplishments came when he became a masters runner. One of his records for the 3000m steeple chase set an American record at 9:18.6 and still has not been beaten to this day. He also held a world record in the steeple chase for twenty four years.
