Getting Protein without Meat!



Hello my vegans, vegetarians, and plant based dieters!

Today I want to give you a nice list of ways to get protein outside of meat.  Diets limiting the amount of meat you eat are becoming quite a trend.  While you don't have to follow it strictly, I think we could all benefit from branching out and eating some of these healthier options.  First, what is protein?  Protein is a macro-nutrient meaning the body needs it in large quantities.  It helps with tissue repair and is the building blocks for muscle, bone, cartilage, skin, and blood (so pretty much everything)!  Choosing items away from food such as steak offers protein and complex nutrients without the saturated fats.  With so many options below, I'm sure you'll find something you enjoy.  Try adding some of these into your recipes.  Making chili?  Add in some of these healthier bean options.  Or make your own trail mix with these nuts and seeds.  Eating a salad?  Add in these veggies to pack it with protein!  You can probably even sneak these in without your kids even noticing.
