What is Tabata and how can it change your personal level of fitness?

"Tabata was trying to prove that if you work people hard enough-if you work at high enough intensity- you can get in shape in a very short period of time." -John P. Pocari Ph.D

So what exactly is Tabata?

Tabata is a training method that was developed by Japanese scientist Izumi Tabata. It came from a study that was researching moderate intensity training results in comparison to high intensity training results.

The results from his study indicated that high intensity interval training had more of an impact on the aerobic system than moderate intensity interval training and had an impact on increasing the anaerobic system as well.

How do you do Tabata interval training?

Here is how you would follow Tabata Training:
Each session lasts a total of 4 minutes
Exercises are performed at maximal effort for 20 seconds
After the 20 seconds of exercise, rest for 10 seconds.
After the 10 second rest period begin the 20 second exercise period.
This is repeated for a total of 4 minutes or 8 exercise periods.

This can be repeated for several times to create a workout routine as well.
