Fall Into Wellness

FALL INTO WELLNESS!

It’s that time of year again... the leaves are changing, the kids are back in school and after-school activities, and you find yourself trying to maintain a sense of wellness among the chaos of change. The transition from the long, summer months to the shorter fall and winter months can take a toll on our bodies. Here are some tips on how you can maintain wellness in the upcoming fall season.

1) Boost your immune system
With the changing seasons come allergies, as well as the dreaded cold and flu season. Falling ill during this time not only takes a toll on your physical well-being, but also your other dimensions of wellness (mental, social, emotional, etc).  In order to prevent this from happening, be sure to eat a well-rounded diet and stay hydrated. If you feel as though your diet is lacking, talk to your physician about adding in supplements such as a multi-vitamin or vitamin C tablets. There are also teas that can aid in immunity boosting!

2) Get that sleep!
As the days become shorter, it’s imperative to keep up on our sleeping habits. For adults, 7-9 hours of sleep each night is the current recommendation. Realistically, however, 6-8 hours is usually more like it. Getting as much sleep as possible is important for proper metabolism and brain functions. Sleeping also allows our bodies to recover from the day and prepare for the next. Having trouble getting to sleep? Try a melatonin supplement or chamomile tea!

3)  Get outside!
Fall is the perfect time to get you and your family outdoors! The weather is excellent for walking, bike riding, apple picking, raking leaves, or even playing a game of catch in the yard. Be sure to take advantage of the cool weather before the winter months. So set down those phones and enjoy the weather while it lasts!

These tips are just some of the ways to engage is healthy habits during the fall. What do you like to do to stay well this autumn season?
