Helping Your Wrists!

Hey Guys,

Tomorrow is Friday!!!  I am soo excited.  We are even supposed to have some nice weather.  I plan on doing a lot of exercise in the gym and outdoors.  So what's up for discussion today?  How many of you have done a plank or push-up and your wrists start hurting?  I'm mostly talking about within group exercise classes or maybe doing body weight training.  When you have any sort of desk job, your wrists aren't getting a lot of work so the small muscles surrounding them plus the joint can weaken.  That is probably why doing exercises like bear crawl or dips can start to hurt.  I would never suggest avoiding wrist exercises.  I would suggest modifying for your needs and working to build them up.  Doing wrist work can help lower your risk for arthritis in the future and can keep you doing daily activities longer in life.  Try the TRX for less body weight resistance or do an exercise for as long as is comfortable on your wrist and then drop to your elbows or take a short break.  Feel free to even compound set the exercise with something that will give your wrists a short break.  For example, holding a plank and then doing a set of heel touches.  This article talks specifically about yoga poses but you can take these modifications into other exercises as well.  Try out one of our yoga classes to put these modifications to the test and to keep building your stabilizing muscles.
