Exercising On The Go

Hello,

I've been talking to a lot of members who travel and have to come to realize that many don't exercise on the go.  I'm here to provide some tips on how to get that workout in and stay on track with your goals.

1.  Don't be afraid to take full advantage of your surroundings.  Go for a hike or take a power walk through your local mall.  Take full advantage of the swimming pool at your hotel.  Even if it's not a lap pool, swimming a few times down and back followed by treading water can be a workout in itself.

2.  Room Workouts:  Obviously utilizing your hotel's gym is a good idea but you can also do workouts in your hotel room.  Try this one out!  Obviously, you can modify to your needs or completely change up the exercises.  This is just giving you an example of something you can do.

Repeat: 5X
Jumping Jacks: 50 reps
Squats: 15 reps
Push-ups: 10 reps
Plank: 60 sec
Mountain Climbers: 60 sec
Superman: 10 reps

3. Stay active:  You don't have to set aside a time to go out on a hike, especially if it's a busy trip.  It can be as easy as getting your steps in for the day or taking a few laps around the airport during your layover.

4. Nutrition:  Okay so this might not be exercise, but it's all about staying healthy.  If you know where you are going for dinner, check out the menu ahead of time.  Choose which meals you are going to be unhealthy for instead of grabbing a burger and fries every time.  Stop by a grocery store and pick up some yogurt and fruit for breakfast.  Bring a water bottle around so you are less tempted to buy a soda or tea.  These can help keep you on track while you're away from home.

5. Get your workout done in the morning.  Traveling is filled with temptations.  If you can workout before your day starts, you will be less likely to pick up McDonalds or have a ton of beer at dinner.

6.  Make exercise a priority.  It's important to mentally prepare before your trip.  Tell yourself that exercising is going to be the one constant on your trip.  You'll be more inclined to make this happen especially if you pack clothes to workout in!

Have fun traveling!
