Stopping The Sickness!

Hey Everyone,

What a long time since I've posted!  Between having a few days off and being sick it's been tough to consistently write, but I am back in action!  Since I was sick, I thought it would be beneficial to talk about ways to avoid illness for you and the whole family.  We both know, once one person in the family gets the bug, it will eventually jump to you!

Tip 1: Stop Touching Yourself

Prevent the urge to constantly touch your face (eyes and nose in particular).  A 2013 study found you are 41% more likely to develop upper respiratory infections if you are constantly touching your face.

Tip 2: Meditate

Taking some time each day to find your inner zen.  Meditation can reduce stress levels that leave you susceptible to infection.  Researchers from the University of Wisconsin at Madison found people who meditate take 76% less sick days.

Tip 3: Green Tea

Skip the coffee and start incorporating more green tea into your diet.  Green tea has a funky ingredient called epigallocatechin which stops multiple virus and bacterial particles from entering your immune system.  Add some honey to limit even more forms of infection like staph, pneumonia, and salmonella.

Tip 4: Thoroughly Wash Your Hands

Take at least 20 seconds to wash your hands and fully dry your hands.  Wet hands are more likely to spread illness.  Try not to switch hand sanitizer for washing your hands.

Tip 5:  Clean Your Gym Equipment!

Thoroughly clean your equipment even if you think you didn't touch "that part."  I am talking to my weight lifters as well.  Wipe down your dumbbells and your bars to prevent the spread of infection.  Many things such as kettlebells, resistance bands, jump ropes, and ropes get missed.  Take note of what you used and go back to it.  Better yet, keep the wipe close and clean as you go!

Tip 6:  Keep Disinfectant At Work

Regularly clean your desk, keyboard, phone, and even light switches.  Even things like calculators or the power button on your computer can be a source of illness.   This is especially useful if you share common spaces such as a break room or desks.

Tip 7: Eat A Balanced Diet (Complete with all the necessary vitamins)

Having a balanced diet can help keep your immune system strong throughout the winter.  Include foods rich in Vitamin C and Zinc.
