Diabetes Awareness Month!

November is National Diabetes Awareness Month!

Type 2 diabetes is a real threat to many Americans but it's something that can be prevented and treated through physical activity and a healthy lifestyle.  I know what you're thinking, is it really that easy to prevent this disease?  YES!  By making an effort to come to the gym and make healthy choices you are not only improving your body, but reducing your risk for developing diabetes as well.

What is diabetes specifically you ask?  Diabetes is a disease in which your body becomes resistant to insulin.  Insulin and glucose work together to deliver glucose to our cells for energy.  As a result of this resistance, too much glucose (sugar) builds up in the body and can cause in particular, high blood pressure.  Over time, type 2 diabetes can result in kidney failure, lower extremity amputations, heart disease, and more.

JOHO is providing a A1C screening to assess your blood glucose levels over the past 3 months.  The cost is only $25 and will be done November 17-19th from 8am to 12pm at your respective site.
11/17 - PHB
11/18 - RFK
11/19 - JCB
