Stress Less

Fall can be a busy time for a lot of us. More people back at work means more meetings and more deadlines. Not to mention “back to school” is already underway for many of us, and around the corner for others. We could all use a few reminders of how to keep stress at bay. Stress can run down our immune system, make us distracted, and impact us in a negative way emotionally. So let’s take a few minutes to curb stress before it takes hold. Follow these tips below to take on stress

  • Take 5: Each morning, before you start the daily grind of tasks and email return, make a fresh list of the things you (reasonably) need to get done that day. Prioritize with the most important first and a separate smaller list for if you have extra time.  Just writing it down can relieve some stress knowing that we have an attainable list of tasks for the day
  • Take a moment: In between stressful meetings, running the kids to practice, and trying to keep the house in a somewhat presentable state, we can forget to take a moment for ourselves. Try to take at least 15-20 (if not more!) minutes for yourself, even if you have to schedule it. Whether it be reading before bed, mediation, gardening, etc. your sanity will thank you
  • Take a walk: Exercise is a proven stress and anxiety-buster! Try to squeeze some sort of exercise into your day and your body and mind will be better off for it. Even if it’s taking an important document with you to the treadmill or scheduling a walking meeting, your productivity will benefit from getting up and moving.

In addition to the tips above, a healthy diet and a full night’s sleep can do a world of difference for our stress levels. Sometimes we need to let ourselves off the hook!

And Remember......
